Council bosses have issued a plea to South Staffordshire motorists to park sensibly or risk facing a hefty fine. This week, the council took over parking enforcement from Staffordshire Police. Parking Enforcement Officers have already vis-ited parking hotspots up and down the district, issuing final warnings to those caught parking inconsiderately. Parking pests who continue to leave their vehicles on pavements and double yellow lines could now be hit with a £70 fine as part of the Clear Streets campaign. Councillor Joan Williams said: "Parking on yellow lines puts children at risk, blocks the way for disabled people, parents with buggies and can prevent the emergency services from getting through. Inconsiderate parkers who have ignored yellow lines have already received warning notices over the past week - but if they continue to break the rules, they could be hit with a £70 bill." The council, which officially took over parking enforcement from Staffordshire Police on Monday, have pledged any surplus funds from the Clear Streets partnership will be ploughed back into improving road safety and transport services across the district. |
