Jobs at two casinos are under threat

Mar 26 2009

Scores of jobs are under threat at two Black Country casinos, after administrators were called in.

London-based UHY Hacker Young has stepped in to run Blue Chip Casinos. Blue Chip runs the medieval-themed Castle Casino in Castle Hill, Dudley, and the Rubicon, in Temple Street, Wolverhampton, which has a Roman theme.

Employees were told of the administration, which leaves them facing an uncertain future, at meetings last week. Blue Chip reportedly made a pre-tax loss of £2 million in the year ending April 30, 2007.

Its main shareholder, Isle Of Capri, has now left the company reeling after withdrawing its two-thirds interest, and writing off a £10 million loan it had made to the firm.

No-one was immediately available for comment from Blue Chip.

Michael Kiely, a partner with UHY Hacker Young, which will try to keep the casinos running as a going concern, was also unavailable.
