Concern of area's policing policy

Jul 26 2005

Albrighton councillor David Leeson has voiced concern over policing in the area after ringing the local force HQ - and getting only an answerphone message.

Now he’s demanding to know if there’s been a change in police policy at the station in nearby Shifnal. Cllr Leeson told last week’s Albrighton Council meeting he’d rung Shifnal Police Station during the daytime to report a traffic matter, but no one picked up the phone.

He said: “We need to know if there’s been a change in policy. Until recently, you could ring Shifnal Station and get a police officer.

“People don’t want to talk to an answerphone - they want to speak to a policeman.

“It was the middle of the day - between 8.30 and 4.30 you would hope someone would be there. If it’s a policy not to have someone there, I think we need to know.”
