Mr Bean actor Rowan Atkinson has successfully claimed £910,000 to fix his smashed-up McLaren F1 supercar, it has been reported. The Blackadder star's repair bill is believed to be the highest ever recorded in Britain. And after the year-long work following the August 2011 crash, Atkinson's annual insurance premium is now thought to be as high as £60,000. Atkinson, whose Mr Bean act returned to a worldwide audience during the Olympics opening ceremony last summer, suffered a shoulder injury in the crash involving the 240mph car, which is thought to be worth around £3 million. Ben Stagg, a senior client manager at specialist insurers RK Harrison, told the online Daily Mail: "It costs between £10,000 and £15,000 a year just to keep a McLaren F1 insured off-road in a garage. "If you want to drive it - and it seems Mr Atkinson drives his a lot - your premium could rise to between £20-£40,000 a year because of the added road risk. "Now he has crashed it, Mr Atkinson's insurers may increase the premium by another 50%. They could also insert a limited mileage clause and increase his excess to around half the car's total value." |
